Kabud Mosque of Tabriz
Kabud mosque of Tabriz belongs to the era of Jahanshah Qara Quyunloo of the second half of the 15th
century A.D. which has been built by Jon Beygom Khatun, the spouse of Jahan shah and repaired by her
daughter Saleheh Khatun during the rule of Sultan Ya'ghub Agh Ghuyunlu. The building of the mosque which
is highlighted because of its tilework and combination of color and unique designs and ornamentation includes
the entrance , two minarets, courtyard and the tomb. The entrance is to the north, 7 meters long and 5 meters
wide. It is located above the level of the adjacent alley. There are 5 stone - made stairs each 3 meters long and
20 centimeters high at the entrance. The remaining entrance arch is more than 8.5 meters high all
ornamented with colorful glaze tiles. The pillars on the two sides have been decorated with glaze tile in full
colors and on the inscriptions of the pillars some verses from the Koran have been printed. The inscription
suggests that the building was built in 1465. The large courtyad of the mosque comes after the entrance and
the vaults, and measures 16.5 meters on each side.
Not much has been left from this great building but the entrance and parts of the courtyard pillars. The domes
of the mosque were recently repaired.
